Every event organised has a theme to be adhered to, from birthday parties, weddings to big international events like the Grammys awards and even beauty pageants.
Batswana are in distress as Miss Botswana 2021 winner Palesa Molefe had a last minute change in wardrobe at the 70th Miss World 2021 grand finale in Puerto Rico.
Ever since the journey of Miss World started, Batswana have been complaining about Miss Botswana’s choice of garments on Molefe. This was because the dresses worn by Molefe were not satisfactory and some were always oversized and that upset Batswana even more.
Early this week warming to the grand finale, Miss Botswana organisers took to social media a teaser of the final dresses that they had for our queen, for Batswana to decide which one Molefe has to wear for the finale.
However, things took a wrong turn during the finale when the whole nation was shocked to discover that Molefe wore a completely different dress from the ones that were published.
According to some social media posts, people were quick to say the dress that Palesa wore belonged to Miss Côte d’Ivoire, Olivia Yacé, who was the queen’s strongest competition throughout the whole contest.
Indeed Molefe confirmed these accusations that were making rounds on social media. In her post she said that she had a wardrobe malfunction with her dresses and Yacé did not hesitate to give her one of her dresses.
“I might have not been able to wear either of my dresses but I was supported by my sisters backstage last night”, Molefe alluded.
One Motswana man took to social media to voice his opinion regarding the wardrobe malfunction Molefe mentioned, “Wardrobe malfunction hmmm what a fanciful way of saying the dresses we had did not match the theme, a whole 60k Stanbic bank donation was wasted.” He said.
In their defence, Miss Botswana Management said that they are still awaiting communication about what transpired in Puerto Rico, however, details about the nature of the malfunction will be communicated.
Could it be that Miss World 2021 did not communicate the theme or Miss Botswana organisers did not receive the communication well on time, that is a question for another day.
