Ministers Promote Botswana Products to Enthusiastic Reception in China

Botswana Pavilion draws large crowds at China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo; local beef and diamonds captivate Chinese visitors – Changsha, China.

During the 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo held in Changsha, the Botswana National Pavilion became one of the most visited and talked-about exhibits at the event. The delegation was led by Honourable Hon. Mr. Onneetse Ramogapi, Minister of Water and Minister of Human Settlements;
They were joined by Mr. Neo D. Moroka, President of the Business Botswana (BB), Mr. Miles Nan,the Commercial Director – Asia, of Business Botswana (BB) and Chief Representative of BB CHINA, and representatives from the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC), Mr Dipopego Julius Tsheko,Director, International Business – India/Asia who together actively promoted Botswana’s premium products.
At the pavilion, Minister Ramogapi and other members of the delegation personally introduced key products from Botswana, including high-quality beef, natural diamonds, and traditional herbal medicines. In a moment that quickly drew a crowd, the team opened a can of premium Botswana beef and invited Chinese visitors to taste the authentic flavour of the Botswana. For many attendees, it was their first time trying Botswana beef, which left a lasting impression.

Interest extended beyond beef: Botswana’s diamonds and herbal products also sparked engaging discussions. Chinese visitors eagerly inquired about diamond mining practices, quality standards, and traceability systems. Officials responded in detail, highlighting Botswana’s commitment to quality and sustainable development.

The Botswana Pavilion also showcased promotional videos highlighting the country’s stunning natural landscapes, rich culture, and attractive investment environment. Many visitors expressed surprise and admiration, commenting, “I never knew Botswana was one of the safest and friendliest countries in Africa,and such a great place for investment and tourism,” and “This experience was amazing. I would love to visit the country in person.”

The Expo runs from June 12 to June 15. The Botswana Pavilion was organized and managed by the China Office of the BB(BB CHINA). Mr. Miles Nan noted that the primary goal of Botswana’s participation is to raise awareness among the Chinese public and business community about Botswana’s unique but under-recognized sectors—particularly beef, diamonds, and tourism.

Through this expo, we want to bring China closer to Botswana,” he said. “We warmly welcome more Chinese companies and individuals to visit, explore opportunities, tourism and invest. BB CHINA will continue to serve as a bridge and provide dedicated support to facilitate meaningful Botswana-China cooperation.”

Of special significance, during the expo, Botswana and China officially signed the Protocol on Botswana Beef Export to China, marking the formal entry of Botswana’s premium beef into the Chinese market. This breakthrough not only opens a new export channel but also serves as a milestone gift in celebration.
